Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad says extremists are 'misconstruing the true teaching of Islam'

The grisly murder of a soldier in the streets of London did more than shock.

It also shed light on what appears to be the latest face of extremism — lone wolf individuals who act without the benefit of a large organization.

It also coincided with a visit to Canada of Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.

He is the world leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslims, a small sect of Muslim that have faced religious persecution for beliefs that fall outside the faith's mainstream.

His visit gave CBC's Carolyn Dunn a chance to sit down with his Holiness. She started by asking him about extremists who carried out recent attacks across the world.

"They claim that they are Muslim and they are doing according to the teachings of Islam, but they are ... misconstruing the true teaching of Islam," he said.
