A TEAM of young Muslims braved the weather to clean the streets of Bolton on New Year’s Day
Members from the Bolton branch of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) kicked off their new year by tidying up streets in Bolton town centre.
On the morning of the New Year Day, 18 members of the youth group took to the streets with bin bags and litter picks in hand to fulfill their civic and religious duties.
The litter-picking by AMYA is designed to instil community spirit within youngsters. Following on from a successful campaign last year, the team took on this initiative and invited local residents to join in.
AMYA youth leader for Bolton, Salman Arshad, said: “The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, taught us that cleanliness is a part of faith.
“This, alongside our passion for training our youth to be model citizens, are the motivating factors for this event.
“We had volunteers as young as six years of age coming out to support the effort.”
He added: “We are grateful to the council for providing us with equipment and support to carry out this initiative and look forward to working with them again.”
AMYA is an auxiliary body of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, a religious and charitable Muslim organisation.
With more than 8600 members spread across 124 chapters in the United Kingdom, AMYA frequently partakes in tree planting, homeless feeding and food bank donation sessions. In 2017, it raised over £600,000 for British charities.
