Members of the Muslim community gather to save lives, and to honor victims of 9/11. They're hoping a blood drive will also help bridge the gap of cultural understanding.

Students may see it as an opportunity to help shore up blood supplies until they learn a little more about it's link to 9/11.

Erfan Ahmad is a member of the UW-Milwaukee Ahmadiyya Muslim student organization, which helped organize the blood drive at the University Union.

He says the event has multiple missions, including a contribution to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's nationwide goal of collecting 10,000 units of blood in honor of 9/11 victims.

Ahmad says he hopes the effort also helps dispel any remaining myths about Muslims. The Blood Center of Wisconsin is grateful for the Ahmadiyya community's caring along with any donations resulting from it.
