Sir: Saying that the news coming from Pakistan is mostly absurd is a no-brainer. However, the recent ban on Shezan by the Lahore Bar Association carries ludicrousness to a higher level.
The resolution was passed by a group of educated individuals (lawyers) who presumably are the guardians of justice. This ban contravenes the fundamentals of a healthy, viable and just society. Sadly, Pakistan is anything but that.
Pakistan’s metamorphosis had been a slow, gradual one until Governor Salmaan Taseer’s assassination. After that watershed moment, all hell has broken loose. These so-called ‘guardians of justice’ breached their sacred oath that very fateful day when they garlanded Mumtaz Qadri (Taseer’s murderer) and granted their accolades to him in court. Absurdity is the new norm in Pakistan; let’s not pretend that we are surprised.
