A Muslim charity, which is organising a walk for peace across east London, has held a dinner to gather support for their cause.
Nearly 200 people and 42 different charities attended the dinner on Friday organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association, which raises money to support vulnerable people in their communities.
The walk for peace, which will be held on May 29, is aimed to raise money for local and national charities.
Among the guest were Ilford South MP Mike Gapes and Mayor of Redbridge Cllr Barbara White along with the High Sheriff of Greater London Lady Ghazala Hameed and other east London MPs and mayors.
Regional coordinator Mr Mubashir Siddiqi, of Ilford, said: “We are so thankful to so many charities who have shown such great interest and have come along tonight to show their support.”
His wife Samina, vice president of the Redbridge North branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women Association, said: “The atmosphere was amazing. There were praises and support for the cause. It was such a wonderful event for all local charities to benefit from.”
President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association Dr Ijaz Ur Rehman said: “Our motto is love for all hatred for none, and we do our level best to ensure that money we raise is forwarded on to those charities that look after the most deserving people in the world.”
The walk will take place on May 29 and will start from 10am outside the Newham Town Hall, Dockside Road.
