Portland, OR USA: Archdiocese to unite with other faiths on anniversary of 9/11

The event is being held in response to a Florida Christian evangelical church's (the Dove World Outreach Centre) plans to hold an international ‘Burn the Koran day' on the same day.

On Saturday, Sept. 11, the Archdiocese of Portland, will take part in an interfaith event, entitled "Standing Together: A Vigil of Interfaith Friendship."

The event is being held in response to a Florida Christian evangelical church's (the Dove World Outreach Centre) plans to hold an international ‘Burn the Koran day' on the same day.

Organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Interfaith Council of Greater Portland, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, the Institute for Christian-Muslim Understanding, First United Methodist Church, First Congregational United Church of Christ, St. Luke Lutheran Church and Dharma Rain Zen Center Buddhist Community along with the archdiocese will all come together for the event to "show solidarity, respect and friendship to fight hatred with love."


The event will be held at the Portland Rizwan Mosque, at 9925 SW 35th Dr., in Portland, Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m.
