BRUSSELS -- The European Union (EU) parliament has asked Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari to use his discretionary powers to pardon the death sentence of Asia Bibi, who was convicted of blasphemy, BBC Urdu reported January 21.
The EU parliament adopted two resolutions asking Islamabad to respect international agreements over religious freedom and tolerance that the country has ratified, BBC Urdu reported.
The resolutions also urged Pakistan to protect minorities’ rights as enshrined in the Pakistani Constitution, media reported.
