Accra, Aug. 31, GNA - Thousands of Ahmadis converged at T.I. Ahmadiyya International School in Accra on Wednesday for special prayers to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Addressing them after the prayers, Maulvi Dr Wahab A. Adam, Head and Missionary in-charge of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, said fasting had the primary objective of laying a solid foundation not only for moral uprightness and spiritual development but also to unite with the under-privileged in society.

He said an important condition of fasting was avoidance of falsehood, foul and indecent language, violent behaviour and infringing on the rights of others.

Maulvi Wahab Adam said Ramadan should bring about a remarkable transformation in the lives of the adherents and make them more peaceful, sober, health conscious, generous, caring, morally and spiritually upright.

He said any other thing would render the fasting meaningless and reduce it to needless infliction on oneself of torture of hunger and thirst.

Maulvi Wahab Adam led the congregation in prayer for unity, peace, progress and prosperity for the nation, and urged politicians to use decent language in their campaign to enhance the beauty of democratic governance.

Maulvi Wahab Adam called on Muslims to ensure that they co-operate peacefully with their neighbours and engage in activities that would always promote peace and understanding.

Mr Kobina Tahir Hammond, Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, urged the youth to be mindful of the good deeds during Ramadan and stay away from trouble.

He urged Muslim leaders to use their privileged positions to inspire their followers to be punctual, hard working patriotic and accountable citizens.

Mr Hammond called for unity and understanding among Muslim Communities to bring about development and social cohesion.
