There is no point in having a building and calling it a mosque if it remains empty and devoid of the gathering for the five daily Prayers. His Holiness also said that the mosque is a place through which others can learn about Islam.

Having completed a successful ten-day visit to Los Angeles, California, the spiritual leader and administrative head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, traveled to Vancouver, Canada to inaugurate a new mosque. His Holiness, the fifth Khalifa, delivered the Friday Sermon at the Baitur Rahman mosque to a gathering of three thousand men, women, and children. The mosque is the largest in British Columbia. The attendees included members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community from across Canada and there were even some who had traveled from the US for the inauguration.
With reference to the significance of the building of mosques, His Holiness said:
“With the Grace of Allah the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is today opening a new Mosque in the Canadian Province of British Columbia. A Mosque has a special effect both on Muslims and non-Muslims alike. When a Mosque is built, new avenues of spreading the message of Islam are created and this is why the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat continually reminded his followers about the importance of constructing Mosques.”The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been successful in building mosques in many parts of the world. Most recently, in March, a new mosque was built in Valencia Spain. This was the second mosque which was built by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Spain. The first one was built in Spain in the town of Pedroabad. It was a significant event in the history of Islam in Spain as it was seven hundred years after the Islamic rule ended that a mosque was built. The year of inauguration of this mosque was 1982.
As in his previous sermons, His Holiness reiterated the purpose of building mosques. He reminded the members that the true purpose of a mosque is for the worshippers to gather there on a regular basis. There is no point in having a building and calling it a mosque if it remains empty and devoid of the gathering for the five daily Prayers. His Holiness also said that the mosque is a place through which others can learn about Islam.
Today, Ahmadi Muslims are the ones who are proclaiming the true message of Islam. Thus, His Holiness called upon the members of the community to practice what they preach and become role models for others. The Ahmadi Muslims are the ones who must spread the peaceful message of Islam not just through their words but also through their actions.
“Prove to those who come to visit this Mosque that every single act of an Ahmadi Muslim is conducted with the intention of benefitting and helping others. It is due to the teachings of Islam and the Quran that we think only of benefitting others, rather than favoring ourselves. Indeed, we do not just think of helping others but through our acts we work towards this aim. God willing, with the opening of this Mosque people will witness for themselves this reality,” His Holiness remarked.
