The Status of Women in Islam – one of the most debated subjects about Islam – was tackled by the members of Lajna Imā'illah, the women’s auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, in France.
The seminar took place on Saturday, 11th may 2013, in FORUM 104 Paris -- a location known for its peaceful environment and openness towards promotion of interfaith dialogues.
After the recitation of the Holy Qur'an and a brief introduction to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, three members of the auxiliary, Aminata Toure, Aneeqa Rehman, and Mahrukh Arif presented various aspect of the subject from multiple perspectives.
The presentation covered the condition of women before the arrival of Islam, establishment of women’s rights with the arrival of Islam, and the current situation of Muslim women.
Aminata Toure spoke in detail about the social, economic and religious state of women at the time of the Antic Greece and the Roman Empire, the Middle Age, the French Revolution and Arabia.
Aneeqa Rehman covered the social, economic and religious status given to women by the Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Mahrukh Arif took up the contentious issues and accusations leveled against Islam concerning women such as the veil, adultery – condition and punishment; and the beating of women.
Ms. Arif debunk the propaganda and made a comparative study of religious texts concerning women within Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
This seminar was held to remove the misinformation about Muslim women that often leads to allegations that women are considered inferior in Islam.
The seminar attracted participants beyond the capacity of the meeting hall and the total number reached 95 attendees, some standing behind the chairs.
The audience was made up of professors, sociologists and university students.
The organizers distributed gifts of the Holy Qur'an and Islamic literature to the guests and served refreshments to the attendees.
All participants reportedly enjoyed the seminar and found it highly informative.
