Muslims have been urged to respect people in authority and the rule of law.
The Acting Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim mission in Ghana, Maulvi Yusuf Yawson made the statement at the 51st annual regional conference of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Movement in Wa.
The conference of the Ahmadiyya Movement which was held on the theme ‘‘Obedience to authority- the hallmark of an Ahmadi’’ was attended by delegates from all over the ten districts in the Upper West Region.
In an address to open the conference, the Acting Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Maulvi Mohammad Yussif Yawson stated that all humans are political beings and are ruled and governed by a system of government which they must respect.
Maulvi Yawson said followers of the Muslim faith do not live in isolation, adding even in an Islamic state, it is not the rule of the jungle that prevails, but a proper and civilized system of governance.
‘‘Islam does not permit criticism of the order of the superior. It does not allow selective obedience.
At the same time it does not advocate blind compliance or unreasonable obedience,” he stressed.
Maulvi Yawson said respecting the arms of government and state apparatus and institutions is essential in ensuring responsible citizens and urged Muslims to abide by that.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Ephraim Avea Nsoh who was the speaker commended the mission for its tremendous efforts in the promotion of education and health care in the Upper West Region in particular and the nation at large.
He said the theme was appropriate because of the widespread indiscipline and crime in the society today.
He said the youth constitutes an important human resource with the potential to contribute significantly to national development.
‘‘It is therefore saddening to recognize that our youth in the Zongo communities are branded as violent, lawless and easily fall prey to the machinations of politicians and some social deviants.
