Each year the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association launches a campaign called the MKA Charity Challenge.  During the campaign local associations through the UK choose a beneficiary charity to work with on a fundraising event.

AMA has for decades enjoyed a reputation for serving local communities in Scotland as well as working with national charities across the region. With members spread across the length and breadth of the region, AMA core focus has been on ensuring members become an integral part of the local communities they live in.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association 5K Fun Run took place on Sunday 2nd June and was another hugely successful event! The annual event, which has been running for three years, has helped to raise over £15,500 for Yorkhill Children’s Charity!

200 runners - a record number of participants - dusted off their running trainers and joined in the Fun Run at Kelvingrove Park. All runners were cheered through the finish line and celebrated with their friends and family in the beautiful sunshine.

We also had some fantastic entertainment including a magician, bouncy castle, and all runners were invited back to the mosque after the race where various prizes were given to the top three runners, and the highest fundraisers. The mosque kindly provided everyone with a delicious home cooked lunch!

Last year the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association as a national organisation raised £240,000 for their respective charities and this year they aim to raise £250,000. We were delighted to have been chosen as the official charity for the 2013 Charity Challenge. To date, the Scottish region has raised over £17,000 for Yorkhill that will support babies and children throughout Scotland and on a national and international basis.

This year the members from AMA will be raising money to fund a Family and Waiting Play Room in the Observation Ward in the New Children’s Hospital, due to open in 2015. The Observation Ward will provide an age and needs appropriate family waiting area and play room, ensuring that children have plenty of toys to keep them busy and amused, in a space that is both comforting and stimulating.

Yorkhill Children's Charity would like to thank everyone involved in helping to raise such an incredible amount, every penny will help support the incredibly brave and inspirational children at Yorkhill Hospital and beyond.  Thank you for helping us to help them!
