Indonesia: Ahmadiyah Followers Have No IC after Seven Years Evicted


Religious Minister Surya Dharma Ali requested Ahmadiyah followers to no longer refer to their religion as Islam. Ahmadiyah followers say they have no intention of giving up Islam until they die.

TEMPO.CO, Mataram - After seven years and five months being evicted from their homes at Ketapang village, West Lombok, a total of 116 Ahmadiyah followers who now live at West Nusa Tenggara Transito dormitory in Mataram still do not hold citizenship status.

The Ahmadiyah followers do not have any Identification Card (KTP) since they refused to categorize their religious as 'other than Islam'. West Nusa Tenggara Ahmadiyah association secretary Sahidin said they refused to do so since, just like other muslims, they believe in Muhammad and the Holy Alquran. Meanwhile, their belief towards Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, known to the followers as Imam Mahdi, since they believe that he was the person the Prophet promised them.

Sahidin (40) told Tempo earlier today, July 10, his objection is that Religious Minister Surya Dharma Ali requested Ahmadiyah followers to no longer refer to their religion as Islam. Sahidin said they have no intention of giving up Islam until they die.
