Islamic history as well as the contemporary Islamic world are filled with the examples of countless highly educated Muslim women. I am not sure what is the source of Boko Haram’s religious education.

As an educated Muslim woman, I read about Boko Haram’s atrocities with feelings of indescribable pain and utmost disgust.
My heart is filled with pain for those little girls whose only crime is to attain an education. My heart goes out to their suffering at the hand of beast-like creatures known as Boko Haram. I am disgusted to learn that Boko Haram are claiming to commit these brutalities in the name of Islam. In actuality they are ignorant of basic Islamic teaching. Islam does not just permit female education but deems it a duty of every Muslim male and female.
Islamic history as well as the contemporary Islamic world are filled with the examples of countless highly educated Muslim women. I am not sure what is the source of Boko Haram’s religious education. Whatever it may be, it is in contradiction with the real teachings of Islam.
May God alleviate the suffering of our Nigerian sisters and eradicate the ideology behind Boko Haram prevailing in any part of the world.
