UK: Response to David Selbourne's anti-Islam comments
Of all the points mentioned, I most profoundly disagreed with Selbourne’s observation that “the history of our age may one day be written under a caliphate’s supervision.” - because he said this with a sense of fear and dread.

As a 24 year old British Muslim and an Imam for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, which is one of the oldest Muslim communities in the UK, I read David Selbourne’s very opinionated article ‘The Challenge of Islam’ with interest. The more I read the more my interest turned into a state of despair as I observed how he had very crudely attacked Islam in a very unjust manner and had used his influence to directly urge US Secretary of State John Kerry towards stronger action in the Muslim world.
Of all the points mentioned, I most profoundly disagreed with Selbourne’s observation that “the history of our age may one day be written under a caliphate’s supervision.” - because he said this with a sense of fear and dread.
The truth is there is a caliphate (Khilafat) that exists today to guide the world. The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, leads tens of millions of Muslims in more than 200 countries. He is the Fifth Successor of His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (peace be upon him), the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who claimed to be the awaited Messiah and Mahdi. In his role as Caliph, has Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad called for murder, violence and terror? No! Rather he travels the world spreading a message of mutual respect and tolerance. The Caliphate I believe in spreads peace, compassion and love to all corners of the world.
So what is Selbourne referring to? Is he referring to the dynastic caliphate of the Umayyads or Abbasids or Fatimids? These were kings, emperors, monarchs and sovereigns; ruling and reigning vast Muslim lands. Or was Selbourne referring to the tyrannical rule of the Mamluks or Ottomans? If so then I stand firmly behind his statement. However, the only Caliphate found in today’s world is one that spreads peace and calls for equality amongst the people of all races.
