UK: 'LIGHTS OUT' and Prayers at Western Europe’s Biggest Mosque for WW1 Fallen

Only a single candle lit from 10-11 PM at western Europe’s biggest mosque yesterday evening as the Ahmadiyya Muslim community - UK joined in the national campaign to commemorate the start of the First World War.

LIGHTS OUT, an event that took place across the UK on Monday, August 4, invited people to turn off their lights for a shared moment of reflection.

Prayers were said at Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden, Surrey, in memory of those who died in the Great War – that include Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and people of all faiths and of no faith – and for those who have perished in conflicts around the world.

Ahmadi Muslims are among those who have been honored for their service in the armed forces from WW1 onwards.

"Our prayers are for God’s mercy on those who have fallen in conflict and for those still embroiled in conflict," said Rafiq Hayat, president, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, adding that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is founded on the principle that the peace is an article of faith.

“We are proud to honor all those who gave their life in the service of our country and the light of their sacrifices shines brightly in our memory,” Mr Hayat added.

Mr Hayat asserted that the worldwide leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, has championed the cause of peace across the world.

"From this very mosque [Hazrat Ahmad] has warned of the dangers of the world edging towards a Third World War unless nations come together to heed the lessons of the past and work for absolute justice."

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, one of the oldest established Muslim communities in Britain, was established in 1913.
