Advocate Malik Saleem Latif, a prominent member of Pakistan's minority Ahmadi community and relative of Dr. Abdus Salam, first Nobel Prize winner of Pakistan, was gunned down on Thursday in an attack. Latif was riding his motorbike to work with his son when a gunman opened fire at them. Thus, Latif died on the spot and his son survived the attack.

Advocate Latif was targeted because of his faith. Assassination of Ahmadis has become a norm in Pakistan where Ahmadiyya community is being heavily persecuted. The opponents of Ahmadiyyat are relentless in their campaign against lives of Ahmadis, their mosques, and their worship centers. In addition to target killing of Ahmadis, they have demolished several mosques, had dozens sealed by the authorities, and set many on fire.

As human beings, we ask our authorities to act against these apostles of hate and violence. We call the government of Pakistan to officially condemn these acts of brutality and seek investigation to bring murderers to justice.
