The battle to get a children's hospice for Berkshire has been praised as 'an incredible story of hope, faith and commitment'.

The comment was made by Cllr Atiq Ahmad Bhatti, social media co-ordinator for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association Slough and Burnham, as the organisation presented a cheque for £500 to the co-founder of the new hospice Fiona Devine.

Cllr Bhatti, who is also a Burnham Parish councillor, said: “The Alexander Devine Hospice is an incredible story of hope, faith and commitment. We are fortunate to be able to witness this beautiful building that is equipped with state of the art features and will provide facilities for children and parents alike whilst they stay here.”

The cheque was handed over outside the new hospice building in Snowball Hill, Maidenhead.

The Mayor of the Royal Borough Cllr Sayonara Luxton was there, as well as Mrs Devine and Javaid Hameed - Regional Coordinator for AMEA Slough & Burnham.

He said: “We have made a commitment that we will endeavour to continue to support Alexander Devine by providing manpower and our services to help them whenever they may call upon us.”

Mrs Devine and her husband John began the fund raising for the hospice in memory of their late son.

Also at the presentation was Julia Philipson - fundraising manager for the Alexander Devine charity, Mubashar Ahmad - Regional Cheque Presentation Coordinator for AMEA Slough & Burnham and Akram Khalid the AMEA co-ordinator.
