Pakistan: Lahore police on high alert after major search operation, no arrests

The action came after the Punjab government approved a limited operation in southern Punjab against banned militant groups. The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jaish-e-Muhammad and Sipah-e-Sahaba are in the crosshairs and a 1,785-strong list of targets has been handed over to the police and law enforcement agencies.

LAHORE: More than 2,000 policemen conducted a major search operation in Lahore’s Township and Green Town areas on Thursday night.

The decision to conduct the operation was made after reports on the presence of suspects in these areas were received. The reports said that these suspects are a threat to minorities.

2,000 police officials, 4 SPs and 48 SHOs took part in the operation. They patrolled the area and raided several houses where suspects were said to be residing.


No arrests were made in the operation.
