The Sindh High Court has disposed of a treason case against former President Pervez Musharraf.

The petition against Musharraf was filed by an advocate Maulvi Iqbal Haider. The petitioner also made Lawyer Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and Former Attorney General Malik Abdul Qayyum a party in the case.

The application pleaded that Musharraf be tried under Article 6 of the constitution for imposing emergency on November 3, 2007, saying that it was an act of high treason.

The Sindh High Court issued notices to Musharraf and his aides with regard to the case, but they did not appear before the court. Therefore, the court decided to announce its verdict in their absence.

The Sindh High Court disposed of the case today (Thursday). It asked the petitioner to file the case in the Supreme Court as it is currently hearing miscellaneous cases in this regard.

The court had earlier reserved its verdict on the petition.

Earlier last month, the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued notices to the federation to file a high treason case against Musharraf after a petition was filed by advocate Ilamuddin Ghazi under Article 6, seeking registration of a case against Musharraf.

Musharraf recently returned to the political limelight when he launched his party the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML). The former president’s comments of returning were greeted with scorn by political rivals, with the prime minister and PPP parliamentarians claiming that he will have to face the courts upon his return.
