USA: Peace walk, 1,000 lights mark Mahatama Gandhi’s birthday celebration

The grand finale was Sunday evening at Hare Krishna Temple, beginning with “Journey to Ecstatic Love,” which depicted significant events in Radhanath Swami’s life.

1000 Lights for Peace, an event marking Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday was held at Miller Outdoor Theater in Houston on Oct. 3rd with non-stop entertainment.

Kick-off for the 1000 Lights of Peace started at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Rose Garden with the Annual Walk for Peace.

The grand finale was Sunday evening at Hare Krishna Temple, beginning with “Journey to Ecstatic Love,” which depicted significant events in Radhanath Swami’s life, and was directed by Yamuna Srinidhi, founder of Nritya Shri School of Performing Arts in Sugar Land.


Radhanath Swami, author of “The Journey Home: Autobiography of an American Swami and director of the Radha Gopinath Temple in Chowpatti, Mumbai, India, greeted Imam Muhammed Zaffarullah of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Houston at the Hare Krishna Temple on Oct. 3.

Girish Naik, president of Hindus of Greater Houston was also present.

Honored with gifts from the Swami were 12 yoga teachers from leading yoga centers namely Yoga Rasa, Yoga West and Ekam Yoga, Imam Muhammed Zaffarullah and two other members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community as well as Girish Naik and Vijay Pallod of Hindus of Greater Houston, Mr & Mrs Ravula of Ashirwad and David Garvin of Vegan Outreach.
