Our maulanas, who claim to have the exclusive domain over religion and religious matters, have been making very often queer interpretations of the religious tenets that not only smear the good name of our religion, but put us in shame before the detractors.

One such incident that sent the people surprised and shocked when Balochistan Senior Minister for Planning and Development, Maulana Abdul Wasey, confessed to extorting money from MPAs and confirmed that he had collected a total of Rs90 million from them.

Speaking at a meeting of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) at the main Mosque, he criticised those elements who had opposed his funds collection from his fellow MPAs for building a seminary in his constituency in Qila Saifullah. Providing details, Wasey confirmed that he had used his influence in collecting around Rs3 to 4 million from each MPA.

Giving past examples, he said no one had given a donation of Rs50, 000 to the JUI leaders and activists. On the contrary, he had collected Rs90 million from MPAs interested in seeking a release of their development funds specified in the provincial budget and official documents.

Independent observers, journalists and the public were surprised over the confession and particularly the use of such funds for building a seminary in Muslim Bagh. One of the journalists also claimed that the minister had misused his official position in extorting money from fellow MPAs, all of whom belong to the treasury benches
