USA: Letters: A barbaric attack on a peaceful gathering

As an American Ally, the Indonesian government must be persuaded to do everything within its power to bring those responsible for this heinous attack to justice and ban these extremist groups.

A group of Indonesian hardliners brutally attacked a peaceful gathering of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community members in Cikeusik, Indonesia on Feb. 6.

The police had knowledge that an attack was imminent but failed to provide enough personnel to stop the rampage or the barbaric killing of three Ahmadi Muslims. Americans must be concerned when an incident like this happens because the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the sole international Islamic voice that wholeheartedly practices peace and condemns terrorism.

As an American Ally, the Indonesian government must be persuaded to do everything within its power to bring those responsible for this heinous attack to justice and ban these extremist groups. Allowing these extremist ideologies to grow threatens not only Indonesia's security, but also the world's.

  1. Indonesia's Ahmadis are exiled in their own country
