“We don’t want these fanatics to hijack our faith and to tell these extremists that they better watch out because there are moderates here who want to educate people to know what the truth is.”

A peace campaign kicked off in Albany last week, before much of the conflict in Egypt broke out.

But the group behind the peace message says peace is something they want to promote all the time.
The ads say “Muslims for Peace.”

They were put up by one of the oldest Muslim communities in America.

The ads can be spotted on CDTA buses in Albany.

Tahira Khan is with the Ahmidiyya Muslim community.

Khan said “A lot of people don't realize that the actual word means peace.”

This community is world wide, in 195 countries.

Locally, they have a Mosque in Rotterdam.

Khan says the campaign also sends a message to any extremists out there…

“We don’t want these fanatics to hijack our faith and to tell these extremists that they better watch out because there are moderates here who want to educate people to know what the truth is.”
