Takoradi March 11, GNA - Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, on Friday called on Muslims to resolve petty misunderstandings that at times result in violence among their rank and file.
He made the call in an address read for him at a special prayer session by members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission as part of the National Week of Fasting, Prayer and Thanksgiving at Takoradi.
Mr. Aidoo urged Muslims to embrace each other and "Together move into the land of freedom and prosperity".
He said Ghanaians were one people irrespective of their political affiliations and ethnicity, adding these variations should be sources of unity instead of division.
"Let us, therefore, resolve to be humane with our utterances especially as we enter into a political campaign period and avoid any comment with the potential to ignite tension and violence in our communities", Mr. Aidoo said.
He said people were trooping into the Region in search of jobs, particularly as a result of the oil find and the crisis in Cote d'Ivoire.
Mr. Aidoo said the social dynamics in the Region were, therefore, going to change with its security challenges.
"Let us, therefore, be alert and cooperate with the security agencies to nib any security breach in the bud", he said.
He said on its part, government would continue to collaborate with all religions and reasons together to achieve a common objective of peace, progress and prosperity.
Mr Ayub Morgan, Regional President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, said every creature loved peace and desired to live and work under peaceful conditions.
He said the world would be a better place for everybody if people resolved not to do anything that undermined peace in the home, family, country and the world as a whole.
Mr. Morgan said what people experienced daily were religious intolerance, political, ethnic conflicts and wars, as well as personal squabbles, backbiting, indiscipline and failure to obey laws.
He said such attitudes led to conflicts which brought destruction.
Prayers were led by Maulvi Farooque, Regional Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission.
