Religious parties have condemned the passage of a resolution in the US House of Representatives calling for change in the Blasphemy Laws in Pakistan, saying it hurt the sentiments of Muslims across the world.

They have demanded of the UN to take notice of the violation of the religious freedom of Muslims.

Jamaat e Islami Deputy Secretary General Dr Farid Ahmed Paracha, expressing concern over the passage of the resolution, said the US move was a result of the weakness and cowardly attitude of the government, especially that of the Foreign Ministry.

He said the honor of Holy Prophet (SAW) was a part of Muslims faith and no foreign power could be allowed to interfere or pressurize any Muslim country on this issue.

Farid Paracha said some other motives had also surfaced after the murder of Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti. The increases in the foreign pressure regarding the matter showed that the murder had been planned by the ëpowersí.

In a joint statement, JUI-F Punjab president Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Ludhianvi, secretary general Qari Atiqur Rehman and Deputy Secretary General Hafiz Abubakar Chaudhri said that US senators had badly hurt the sentiments of the Muslim world and the UN should take notice of this blatant violation of the religious freedoms of the Muslims as enshrined in the UN Charter on Human Rights.

They accused the US of trying to create strife between Muslims and Christians after the Bhattiís murder. They said Christians and all minorities living in Pakistan enjoyed equal rights besides having dual representation rights in the parliament. If Washington viewed Bhatti’s murder as anti-Christian act, why it had failed to confess to the large scale genocide of Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Kashmir, etc, as manifestations of Muslim enmity, he asked.

They said the resolution was nothing but an attempt to pressurize Pakistan for some ulterior motives against its national interests.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaquat Baloch has said the time for holding accountable the plunderers of national wealth is approaching fast as the masses want a change of rulers besides the recovery of the looted money from the corrupt.

Addressing JI workers at Mansoora on Monday, he said people coming in power after February 2008 elections had failed to deliver and they disappointed the masses badly. He said there was complete unity among ruling parties for enjoying power at the masses’ expense and use of unlawful means, but they were not ready to join hands for ameliorating the lot of the common man. Those in power were eating up the country’s resources and pushing the middle class towards degradation. The party promising Roti, Kapra and Makan to the poor was denying them even the right to live. The prices of POL, electricity, gas and eatables were touching new heights and the masses were receiving fresh shocks every day instead of any relief.

In such a situation, he said, the JI had launched a mass contact drive for freeing the country from the US slavery and the corrupt rulers. He said the JI had planned to approach about 25 million people during this campaign and give them a new hope and spirit besides struggling for their bright future.

The JI, he said, was preparing for the elections to local governments, the provincial assemblies and the National Assembly.

Replying to a question, Liaquat Baloch said that the civil and military establishment was stronger today than in the past. He said the US-India-Israel evil trio wanted to get hold of Pakistan’s nuclear assets by proving the country a destabilised and failed state and these colonial powers were causing bloodletting in the country.
