TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi says he supports a judicial review against regional bylaws banning Ahmadiyah activities. “Let the Supreme Court decide if they are right or wrong. We must respect that,” said Gamawan in Jakarta yesterday.

He said the initiative taken by the Legal Aid Institution was appropriate and added that debates about Ahmadiyah would not be solved by the public.

The Indonesia Legal Aid Foundation submitted a judicial review to the Supreme Court against regional bylaws forbidding Ahmadiyah. According the foundation, the bylaws are often used as legitimate tools to justify violence against Ahmadiyah.
