Common sense: No threat to America

Belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I assure my American brothers, that Gingrich's allegations are totally unfounded. The Quran commands Muslims to "Obey God, His Messenger, and those who are in authority among you" (4:60). It advocates separation of mosque and state and demands that Muslims obey their government.

In the election of 1960, many held "No Popery" signs and advocated against John F. Kennedy. They grieved at his election, claiming a Catholic president meant an end to American ideals.

The "No Popery" signs have been traded in for "No Shariah" signs for the 2012 election, with Newt Gingrich as the agenda's leader. Gingrich said that one day his grandchildren may live in a country "dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American."

A history major and a recently converted Catholic, Gingrich fails to learn from the past. Anti-Catholics used the same tactic of threatening the "loss of American identity" in Kennedy's election and now he uses it against Muslims.

There is no threat of the forceful imposition of Shariah, a notion Islam completely rejects. Our grandchildren will inherit the same unique American identity we enjoy today.
