Oshkosh, WI - USA: Local Muslims react bin Laden's death

OSHKOSH - During their afternoon prayer, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said the death of one the world’s leading terrorists is something to be thankful for.

"Our reaction is that justice has been served," said Ahmed Khan. "We are not elated by the fact that somebody died but by the fact of the rules of justice and the United States of America is fighting the War on Terror."

While they stress Islam is a religion of peace, they say a war to end terror is something they support.

"President Obama himself put it quite well, that Osama bin Laden does not represent Islam," said Saad Ahmad. "He is not a Muslim leader. He was a leader of a terrorist organization."


Outside of their mosque reads the saying "Patriotism is a part of faith."

"That is a saying of the Prophet Muhammad," said Ahmad.

Those FOX 11 spoke with say they also support the shows of patriotism since the news of bin Laden's death, including chants of "USA" at the White House and other venues.

"I think it is good news for America and all Muslims throughout the world," said Mustafa Ahmed.

While they follow tradition closely at Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, they say they are also glad the United States buried bin Laden within 24 hours as according to Islamic custom.

"I think Americans took a good step in doing that," said Ahmed.

And they hope it will be an even bigger step toward peace.

"This is a landmark in the war against terror, but by no means is it the end," said Ahmad.
