Recognition: Qasim Rashid, L'12, awarded DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarship

An American-Muslim human rights activist, Rashid is a prolific writer and a frequent lecturer on American-Islamic issues. He is a national spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and serves as a volunteer chaplain for the Virginia State Prison system.

Qasim Rashid, L’12, has been awarded a 2011 Law Student Diversity Scholarship from DRI, the Defense Research Institute. DRI is the largest international membership organization of attorneys defending the interests of business and individuals in civil litigation. Rashid traveled to Chicago on June 16, 2011 to receive this award.

Rashid was awarded the $10,000 scholarship in recognition of his demonstrated academic excellence, his service to the legal profession and community, and service to the cause of diversity.

An American-Muslim human rights activist, Rashid is a prolific writer and a frequent lecturer on American-Islamic issues. He is a national spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and serves as a volunteer chaplain for the Virginia State Prison system.

He is an award-winning member of the Muslim Writers Guild of America and has published numerous articles in The Huffington Post, USA Today, The Washington Post, and other regional and international publications.


Rashid received his B.S. in marketing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. At University of Richmond School of Law he is the executive editor of the Richmond Journal of Global Law and Business and the founder and president of the Muslim Law Student Association. He is an editor for the law school’s Juris Publici newspaper and an associate member of the Client Counseling and Negotiation Board. Rashid is also a research assistant for Dr. Azizah al-Hibri. In March, 2011, Rashid competed at the BLSA International Negotiation competition in Houston, Texas.
