The Ahmadiyah mosque in Jl Madrasah Block J No. 28 at RT 02/10, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta was sealed by East Jakarta Building Supervision and Control (P2B) Sub-Department on Thursday (11/17) alleging the building was in violation of its building permit.

In the permit, it was alleged, the two-story building was in fact only a house but the house was offered for use as a mosque by the owner.

There was no resistance during the sealing from the building owners present on location.

Bambang Sudjimanto of East Jakarta Supervision and Control Sub-Department Head, who personally led the sealing of the premises, stated that the party [Ahmadiyah] was sent warning letters first.

By sealing, he hopes there will be no more salat [prayers] offered in the mosque which, he claims, was done regularly by the Ahmadiyahs.

“We had sent warning letters but they ignored it until we finally sealed this building on Thursday (11/17),” he expressed.

Meanwhile, Azis (27), one of Ahmadiyah member who serves as mosque caretaker, stated that since the attacks in Cikeusik, Pandeglang, Banten, some months ago, there has been no routine activity in the mosque.
If there were any activity, Azis said, it was only for the offering of Eid ul Adha prayer and slaughtering of the Qurbani animals several days ago and, in fact, only about 60 people from Duren Sawit, Kramatjati and Tebet had participated.

“Previously, there were about 300 participants who were active in this mosque before the Cikeusik attacks  and they routinely held salat and recitation [of the Holy Qur'ān] activity in the mosque,” he said.

Wahyu Supriatna, the District Head of Durensawit, said after the sealing of the building that now his people will control them [Ahmadiyah] 24 hours a day, every day.

This is conducted as an effort to prevent conflict, he said, and if the same activity will be found there, they [his people] will follow it up firmly.

The mosque, which has been actively populated since 1997, is now uncertain of its fate after the sealing and Azis  plans to seek guidance from Ahmadiyah leaders in Jakarta.
