Riyadh: The bounty announced by a prominent Saudi cleric for kidnapping of Israeli soldiers was met with a counter-announcement – calling for the cleric’s head - by ‘vengeful Israelis’, it was reported.

According to an Urdu daily in Pakistan, a million dollars prize was offered to anyone who will kill Awad al-Qarni, a well known cleric in Saudi Arabia for his outspoken views.

Qarni, who is not part of the official clerical establishment in Saudi Arabia, said on his Facebook page that his offer of $100,000 to any Palestinian who kidnaps an Israeli soldier was made in response to a reward promised by an Israeli, Rabbi Menachem Liebman father of settlement security guard Shlomo Liebman, who was murdered in 1998.

Now Prince Khaled bin Talal, a brother of Saudi billionnaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has pledged a $900,000 addition to the bounty offered by Qarni , according to statements made on a private TV station Saturday, Reuters reported.

The bounty now stands at $1 million for the capture of individual Israeli soldiers, to be used in future prisoner swaps, according to Qarni.

The announcement was made in a 29 October 2011 telephone call to al-Daleel, a private  television station,  in the Saudi Kingdom.

“I tell Dr. Awad al-Qarni, 'I will be in solidarity with you and pay the remaining $900,000 to take an Israeli soldier prisoner so that other prisoners can be freed,'" said Prince Khaled bin Talal.

"Dr Awad al-Qarni said he was offering $100,000 to only take a prisoner but they responded by offering $1 million to kill Awad al-Qarni," the Prince added to explain his reason for siding with the cleric.
