UK: Moderate Muslim community welcomes Home Secretary's decision to ban 'Muslims Against Crusades'

The Ahmadiyya community hoped the media will follow suit by not giving 'this lunatic fringe' unnecessary recognition and asked the media to instead devote coverage to "the vast majority of Muslims who want to build a better Britain for all communities and contribute to the well-being of society."

The UK Home Secretary, Theresa May, has ordered banning from midnight of 'Muslims Against Crusades,' planed by an Islamist extremist group to disrupt Friday's Armistice Day ceremonies.

According to The Guardian, the Home Office's decision was based on an assessment of the group's involvement in the glorification of terrorism and the evidence that it was another name for an already proscribed terrorist organisation.

The Home Secretary's ban, according to The Guardian, was evoked under the Terrorism Act 2000 and it makes it a criminal offence to "arrange a meeting in support of a proscribed organisation, or to wear clothing, or to carry articles in public which arouse reasonable suspicion that an individual is a member or supporter of the proscribed organisation"

In a statement issued by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of UK, which has been actively fundraising for the Poppy Appeal, the representatives welcomed the 'bold decision from the Home Secretary."

The community hailed the decision as a victory for justice and common sense.

"It sends out a clear signal that those who perpetrate hate and thrive on causing division will not be tolerated," said  Dr Basharat Nazir, Press Secretary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK.
