The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, Ireland will hold its 11th Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) tomorrow, Sunday 1 July, at the Clayton Hotel in Galway City.

The whole day event will be attended by community members from all over Ireland. It will officially begin with a flag hoisting ceremony in the morning during which the Irish national flag along with each province’s flag will be raised with Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's flag by Dr Anwar Malik, National President and by national office bearers from the organisation.

The second session of event from 12noon will be attended by the Deputy Mayor, local TDs, councillors and local members of An Garda Siochana, who will also address the convention. An introductory presentation on community activities in the last year will also be shown.

The convention will also be addressed by Imam Ibrahim Noonan, the community's Irish Imam based in Galway and senior scholar Moulana Munir Uddin Shams, who will be travelling from London in representation of His Holiness, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (atba) Khalifatul Masih V, the Spiritual Head of the community worldwide.

"The theme of this year’s convention is mainly in relation to the Galway Mosque, Maryum Mosque (Mary Mosque). We are very pleased to announce that the work has begun already at the site in Ballybrit and we hope to complete it in a year's time,” said Imran Ahmed.

This year, the speeches at the convention will also focus on the building and blessing of the mosque and how to revive Islam as “religion of peace, tolerance and learning, its true and pristine teachings”.

Others topics will include the role of the mosque in relation to such issues and also in relation to how best to engage in all aspects of Irish society, how to work with all stakeholders to redress negative perceptions of Islam and how to promote inter-faith dialogue to reach mutual understanding and peace.

A book stall and exhibition on the community's history in Ireland, key Islamic beliefs and topics will also be on display, which will be open to all community members and guests during the convention.
