The Koran is on display at the state Capitol Rotunda for two weeks as a midstate Muslim group celebrates Pennsylvania's Year of the Bible. Several 6-foot high displays show the Koran's words on peace, women's rights, justice, technology and more.
The 300-member Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Harrisburg sponsored the exhibit and held a press conference today to stress the theme of peace and unity in their holy book.
Akram Kalid, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Central Pennsylvania, talked about the Koran and its influence Thursday in the state Capitol Rotunda.
Muslims recognize the prophets and holy books from Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism, said spokesman Mubashir Mumtaz.
Gov. Tom Corbett spoke briefly with the Muslim leaders as he passed through the Rotunda to a meeting. When a reporter asked what he thought of the exhibit and whether next year might be the Year of the Koran in Pennsylvania, Corbett said, "Let me take a look at it first."
