The most glittering, the most brilliant, the awesome scientist, Dr Abdus Salam, here I salute you.

The humble physicist predicted the existence of the Higgs Boson, and the world acknowledged his contribution with an open mind. The only Nobel Laureate of Pakistan, who was once the hero of the country for his breakthrough in Physics and nuclear technology, was treated like a pariah, once our so-called guardians of religion decided to be the arbiter of his religious faith.

The great doctor’s work on the so-called standard model of particle physics, theorising the relation between the primary forces and their influence on the general dynamics of the universe found his own homeland too narrow and too judgmental to inhabit, and he lived away until he died in 1996.

Those who removed the word ‘Muslim’ from his gravestone failed to grasp a simple truth: for the rest of the world, he would always be the Muslim physicist, Nobel Laureate, who opened a new realm of science to them. The man who discovered the ‘god particle’, I salute you again, and I will let God do what only He is empowered to do — judge human beings on their faith.
