UK: Ahmadiyya Muslims call for unity over Ramadan dates
“But by the Grace of God, technology has developed when the observatories can inform us precisely when a new moon can be seen. These days there are many websites who will inform you which countries are able to see or not see the new moon.”

A MUSLIM group has proposed using technology to more accurately date Ramadan.
The month of fasting begins and ends with the sighting of the new moon.
But the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association in Huddersfield says some groups of the religion begin and end their fasting on different days.
They say the reason for this is that many Muslims will begin their fast when other Muslim countries begin their fast not when the new moon can been seen in the UK.
Fatih Ul-haq, president of the association, said: “This should not be the case.
“We have to see it in this country, not when other countries observe it.
“We know that just because there is a new moon, doesn’t mean that it can be seen in this country.
“In fact the new moon is very low, thin and doesn’t stay very long and normally will not be seen in this country.
“But by the Grace of God, technology has developed when the observatories can inform us precisely when a new moon can be seen.”
Mr Ul-haq said this year Ramadan should begin on Sunday, July 22 with Eid ul Fitr on Monday, August 20.
He added: “These days there are many websites who will inform you which countries are able to see or not see the new moon.”
