AHMADIYYA Muslims Community in Morogoro Region has assured the Government in the Region that their followers will participate in the National Census, which is expected to take off on August 26, this year.
Morogoro Regional Ahmadiyya Muslims Community Sheikh Asif Butt said this yesterday when the Regional Commissioner, Mr Joel Bendera, was talking with religious leaders in his office on the importance of participating in Census.
Mr Butt said they knew that census is conducted to enable the government to have good plans for development, so refusing to be counted will result in preventing the government in making important decisions for development to their people.
“Our religion insist on the respect to our leaders as long as they are not directing us into sins and we all know that participating in census is not sinful, Ahmadiyya Muslims shall participate in National census,” he said.
Mr Bendera had a one day meeting with religious leaders in the region to call them to cooperate with the government in persuading their followers to participate in the coming census because there are some people who are propagating against the exercise in Morogoro Region.
He said the Government is ready to receive and work on any advice, which will be given for the aim of improving census exercise for the benefit of the country. “To shun the census is to interfere with our peace and security so I request you as the religious leaders to cooperate with Government to accomplish this exercise with success,” Bendera said.
In his remarks, Pastor Emanuel Lumambo from the Anglican Church told the Regional Commissioner that in his church they have already started to educate their followers on the importance of Census and they will participate.
A representative from the Islamic Foundation, who is also the Managing Director of Imaan Radio, Mr Ali Ajiran, said the census is important but for them to participate or not will depend on the decision which will be given by Haiyatul Ulamaa (Ulamaa Committee).
