That Genius of a Man! Remembering Dr Salam


And in our own recent times, the whole world was thrilled when the CERN Geneva office, splashed the news on July 4th, 2012, that the laboratory experiment results have proved correct, the theoretical forebodings of Abdus Salam, published decades ago.

Thursday, January 31, 2013 - January 29th has a special importance for Pakistan because it was on this date when the science genius son of the soil of Jhang, Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam was born and the world recognized his extraordinary God gifted talent in the subjects of Physics and Mathematics when he was awarded the coveted Nobel prize in Physics in 1979.This day/date revives the sweet memories of the scientific works of wonder in theoretical physics done by him, with insatiable hard work and labor of love natural sciences of Physics and Mathematics.

Dr. Salam had a very special passion for using modern Science and Technology for the betterment and happy life of common man in the third world countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America. For this lofty purpose, he established, in 1964, a Center of Excellence for Scientific studies, called ‘ The International Centre for Theoretical Physics. Dr Salam served as its Founding Director, from 1964 to 1993 during which more than seventy thousand talented science students from the poor third world countries got admission at ICTP to gain the latest know-how and knowledge of modern sciences at Trieste, all free of cost, pre-paid.

And in our own recent times, the whole world was thrilled when the CERN Geneva office, splashed the news on July 4th, 2012, that the laboratory experiment results have proved correct, the theoretical forebodings of Abdus Salam, published decades ago.This newly discovered minutest particle in physics, was named as “The God particle”. This name of the newest particle physics must have pleased the soul of Dr. Salam, in his final resting place of Jhang district. May God bless the departed soul, Ameen.
