Imam Shamshad A. Nasir from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s Baitul Hameed Mosque on Ramona Ave. in Chino was among several dozen Christian religious leaders in attendance at a Pastor Appreciation Breakfast Wednesday, March 27th at the Chaffey College extension building in Ayala Park. Imam Shamshad -- accompanied by three members of his congregation -- was the only Muslim Imam to attend the buffet-style event. The Pastor Appreciation Breakfast was hosted by San Bernardino County supervisor Gary Ovitt, who is himself an ordained Christian minister.

The Breakfast is an annual gathering to say “thank you” to the pastors, priests, reverends and imams who preside over diverse religious communities spread throughout the Inland Empire and San Bernardino County. Supervisor Ovitt thanked the religious leaders for dedicating their time and service to bringing to their congregations the Word of God as well as much-needed compassion and comfort to those in emotional and spiritual distress.

The various religious leaders introduced themselves before the keynote address, which was given by Army Chaplain Cesar Rodriguez. Imam Shamshad used his introduction time to thank Mr. Ovitt for bringing them all together and for the blessing of religious freedom in America that allowed them to come together in peace and friendship and to worship as they saw fit.

The keynote address by Chaplain Rodriguez focused on the duty that religious leaders must shoulder as spiritual caretakers and comforters to those in need. He said it was one of the primary reasons for their positions and a sacred trust that must always be honored and discharged with love.
