Eye on extremism: A universal culture of violence

America, along with the rest of the world, has succumbed to a culture which glorifies violence. When this culture is paired with slippery legislation, in the case of guns, the violence of the kind we see here today occurs.

Within this past year, we have witnessed an escalation of violent crime on American soil — the Sandy Hook shooting, the Sikh temple shooting, the Colorado movie theater shooting and, now, bombs going off at the Boston Marathon.

America, along with the rest of the world, has succumbed to a culture which glorifies violence. When this culture is paired with slippery legislation, in the case of guns, the violence of the kind we see here today occurs.

This violence has been placed in a position once held by a forgotten whim of the past — tolerance. Instilling tolerance in the people of the world may be out of our league as Americans, but what about at least bringing moral instruction back to our classrooms?

My prayers go out to the people of Boston, and I hope for our world’s sake that tolerance will be restored to its rightful position in society once again.
