More than a thousand members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) UK will this Sunday be taking part in a charity walk, run and bikeathon to help raise money for charity.

Dozens of volunteers will be heading to the picturesque Willen Lake in Milton Keynes to take part in AMYA's annual ''Charity Challenge''. The event raised a quarter of a million pounds last year and organisers are hoping to top that amount this year.

The event will also be raising money for ten national charities and  further sixteen regional ones. The beneficiaries include Save the Children, the British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer  and NSPCC.

Farooq Mirza, the event's chairman said:
''We are delighted to be able to continue our support for some great causes. It gives us particular pleasure and drive to be supporting a fantastic charity on our doorstep. Given the recent tragic events in Boston, this is also an opportunity for us as Muslims to show that true Muslims are passionate about protecting life and not harming it.''
Linda McAvan, Member of the European Parliament, said:
"I am pleased to show my support for the MKA Charity Challenge. It has consistently brought large numbers of people together year on year, and has raised money for many worthy causes that help change people's lives for the better.

''I wish the organisers and participants every success with the event!"

The AMYA Charity Challenge is an annual charity event which was established in 1985. It has raised well in excess of a million pounds for a number of UK charities. In addition to the event at Willen Lake, it also consists of a hike to the French Alps, charity walk and run in Scotland and the Seven Bridge run in Wales.

Anyone wishing to support the event can text ''AMYA10'' and the amount they would like to sponsor (i.e. AMYA10  £5) to 70070 and every penny will go to charity. Alternatively, visit the event website www.mkacc.org.uk where you can find out more about the event and can donate directly to a charity using justgiving.
