As a Muslim American, I’m perturbed when extremists’ wrongdoings are the headlines we see in mainstream media. There are many people and organizations that portray the true face of Islam in an effort to fill the information chasm. However, these efforts are overlooked.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been peacefully championing the true message of Islam through blood drives, community outreach and interfaith dialogue. Nationwide, Muslims for Life blood drives collected more than 11,000 units of blood to pay tribute to the 9/11 victims. The ongoing Muhammad: Messenger of Peace campaign is effectively dispelling the myths about the Prophet of Islam.
After the furor over Innocence of Muslims, this cogent rebuttal should have been covered out of merit and fairness.
The photograph accompanying the April 6 article, Weapons-in-Qurans claim at crux of strike, is a case in point. The caption mentions that detainees are given a Quran; however, the book that is showcased is Sahih Muslim, a book of Hadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad). I hope that the newspaper will refrain from hasty generalizations and adopt a reasonable approach in the exposé of Islam.
