3 injured in Baramulla, newspaper apologizes, 3 staffers detained
Baramulla, May 14: At least three persons were injured in Baramulla town after Sikh community protested against an illustration published along with a news report titled ‘Marriages of Faith’ in a local newspaper.
Eyewitnesses said, two protesters identified as Manjeet Singh of Sherwani Colony and Devendar Singh of Srinagar sustained minor injuries after an accidental pellet-fire by a cop. A passerby youth Asif Amin son of Mohammad Amin resident of Oldtown Baramulla was alleged thrashed by the protesters and he was shifted to district hospital Baramulla for treatment.
Medical Superintendent District Hospital Baramulla, Bashir Ahmad Chalkoo confirmed minor injuries to said persons.
Sources said the protesters caught hold of a youth and allegedly attacked him with a knife but somehow he managed to escape. “The protestors also smashed window panes and reception table of Deputy Commissioner’s office,” they said.
Terming the illustration published along with a news story as anti-Sikh community, President Gurdawara Prabandhak Committee Baramulla, Janak Singh Sodhi said, “The illustration published along with news report has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikh Community. We want action against the organization."
Eyewitness further said that hundreds of people from Sikh community staged a protest demonstration against the newspaper at Nanak Bhawan and outside Deputy Commissioner’s Office Baramulla. Angry protestors blocked Srinagar- Baramulla highway for hours hampering vehicular moment for hours.
Following the protests a large contingent of police was deployed near Nanak Bhawan and DC office Baramulla. Three staffers of the newspaper were also detained by Baramulla police for questioning.

Newspaper apologizes
As soon as protests erupted in Baramulla town against the news story and the illustration it carried, the newspaper apologized for it. Following is the text of the apology:
“An illustration that accompanied a story (titled: Marriages of Faith in this newspaper about interfaith marriage in Baramulla appears to have hurt religious sentiments of some members of a minority community. Kashmir Life unequivocally states that there is absolutely no intention of hurting sentiments of any religious community and if sentiments were hurt. We apologize for the same, although no one has raised any objection to any of the facts presented in the instant story. We would also like to state that at Kashmir Life we accord the highest importance and respect for religious sentiments of all faiths. Staying with that important ethic, we have not uploaded the illustration in question along with the story on our website.”

From the recent incidents it is quite evident that minor communities be it kashmiri pandits in past and now sikhs are being targeted with ulterior motives and it even has the behest of local administraion and now the media approves it. It is very shameful act and if conversion at time for one religion is blasphamy the how could it becomes faith be converting others by force and brutality .The so called mullah or fundamentals who are spreading their horrific thoughts shouldnt be acknowldeged by media and administration...
