Indonesia: Ahmadiyya mosques, houses attacked in Tasik


According to local Ahmadi sources between 100 to 200 radicals pelted 20 Ahmadi houses and the mosque with stones.

Houses and mosques of the Ahmadiyya community in two locations in Tasikmalaya, West Java, are destroyed now facing an unknown future.

According to the information collected at the scene, hundreds of people driving motorcycles, pickup trucks and other vehicles damaged 112 homes along with the mosque in Kampung Tenjowaringin, Salawu District, Tasikmalaya, at 01.00 am.

Mob also moved towards Jalan Kampung Babakan Sindang, RT 11/03, Desa Cipakat, Singaparna District, Tasikmalaya regency, at 03.15 until 03.30 pm where they destroyed the mosque and one of the houses.

The crowd also set fire to a mosque carpet and cut off electricity.

One of the Ahmadiyah community member, Rahmat, said the attack took place after a convention was held at Ahmadiyya Mosque, Kampung Kutawaringin, Tenjowaringin village.

"Attack occurred at around 01.30 pm.” said Rahmat of the Ahmadiyah community in Garut. “There were programs in the mosque on Saturday until 20:00 pm".

In the current incident, he said, he was staying at the home of an Ahmadiyah community member when suddenly he heard the shouts of a group of people in the yard where he was staying.

Knowing there was an attack in the making, he and a number of other Ahmadiyah went out and left the house.

"I was shocked when I heard a voice shouting to immediately get out of the house," he said.

Due to the attack, Rahmat said, a number of Ahmadis homes, shops, and a mosque were damaged.

According to local Ahmadi sources between 100 to 200 radicals pelted 20 Ahmadi houses and the mosque with stones.

"I do not know how the group of people suddenly came out of nowhere and attacked.”

“Usually the meetings take place safely and are guarded by the police," he said.
