Gambia: Ahmadiyya Muslism Jamaat Supports Disaster Victims in Foni
Amir Trawally called on individual philanthropists and other humanitarian agencies to take part in such ventures noting that government alone cannot do it .

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in The Gambia Tuesday extended a helping hand to nine families in Foni Bondali District of the West Coast Region that were affected by disaster during this year's rainy season.
The presentation ceremony, which was held at Kanwally village, saw two other villages in Jabai and Brunma joined the host in receiving 18 bags of rice, nine 5litre gallons of cooking oil and some cash.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Amir of The Ahmadiyya Mission in The Gambia, Baba F. Trawally, expressed regret over the unfortunate incident that led to the displacement of some families. He explained that the priority of a Muslim is to render assistance to fellow Muslims especially in times of difficulty.

Trawally also used the occasion to pray for the affected families for God's protection against future emergencies. He also hailed the degree of stability in The Gambia an prayed for continued peace in the country. He reminded the gathering that some parts of the world are equally hit by disasters, but could not get immediate assistance due to instability.
For his part, Ousman Bah, the Area Missionary, underlined the role of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the country, noting that it ventures into distinct areas of intervention such as health and education amongst a host of others. He explained the reason for the gesture, revealing that it came after the Ahmadiyya Amir in the country saw on the national television, the scale of damage caused by windstorm in affected communities. He added that the Jamaat, thus conducted a follow-up assessment which led to the assistance.
The Alkalo of Kanwally village, Ismaila Kujabi thanked the Jamaat for the gesture, describing it as timely and important. He said the havoc caused by the windstorm was an unfortunate incident not only for the victims but the entire village. Jonkong Sanneh, the APRC Constituency chairman for the district, also lauded the initiative, noting that the affected victims were in dare need of such assistance. He also implored other humanitarian institutions to emulate the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the country.
Dembo Badjie, the representative of the chief of Foni Bondali district, urged the victims to be patient despite the serious havoc caused. He also thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the Gambia for what he called "a wonderful and timely gesture"
