The Prophet Muhammad teaches me that loyalty to my country is a part of my faith, and so it sickens me that these extremists delude themselves into believing that this is all "with permission from Allah the almighty," as one Syrian extremist put it.

I'm a Canadian Ahmadi Muslim, and proud of it. The word Canadian comes first, because my loyalties lie with this grand nation. The extremist views held by radicals, be they in Syria or Nigeria, are about as Islamic as a Canadian's hesitation to apologize - if not less.

The tragic irony is that Allah grants permission to get rid of extremist militants, not the other way around. I want my fellow Canadians to know, that while lunatics like this exist, there also exists a strong community of Muslims whose sincere prayers are dedicated daily to this great country. The international head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community once publicly prayed that "the world becomes Canada, or that Canada becomes the whole world." Amen to that.
