Defending Islam: Ahmadi Muslim writers' perspective

Muslims themselves must stand up. This comes from an Ahmadi Muslim. After all – what happens when another Boko Haram stands up in another part of the world?

STAND UP TO BOKO HARAM

While I’m thrilled that Nigeria has found the girls, I can’t help but point out that Boko Haram is no longer just a group of individuals terrorizing lives, falsely guised in the mantle of Islam. Rather, they are a smear on the face of humanity at large; an inspiration for fanatics, and a breeding ground for future extremism. What they call an “Islamic State” is so far removed from Islam that it would make Muhammad himself cringe. We are forced to seriously re-evaluate ourselves when we continue to allow them to instill fear on a global scale. International policing must take a step forward before it’s too late. Muslims themselves must stand up. This comes from an Ahmadi Muslim. After all – what happens when another Boko Haram stands up in another part of the world?

NO SLAVERY IN QUR’AN

Re “Muslims must be honest about Qur’an” (Tarek Fatah, May 20): If Tarek Fatah had true knowledge about Islam, he would never make such outrageous allegations against the faith of 1.8 billion people, a philosophical ideology which has fostered countless savants, scholars and saints. Fatah should do his research before making such big claims. The verse he quoted simply mentions the women Prophet Muhammad married. There is no such incident in his life of him taking “sex slaves” – in fact, he initiated a system that not only granted slaves freedom, but made them equal, respected members of society. The Qur’an actually commands Muslims to manumit slaves upon their seeking it. There’s nothing to hide about the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. If Fatah had done his research properly, he would know Boko Haram is entirely contrary to what the Holy Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad teach.
