Pakistan: Four Ahmadis killed over alleged blasphemy


Those killed included 55-year-old woman Bashiran, a minor girl Kianat, 7-year-old Hira and an unborn child, who died because of suffocation.

Gujranwala: Furious over alleged blasphemy, an angry mob on Sunday night attacked Ahmedis community in Gujranawala, killing four people.

Those killed included 55-year-old woman Bashiran, a minor girl Kianat, 7-year-old Hira and an unborn child, who died because of suffocation.

Injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital, where their condition is said to be ‘critical’.

According to a report on BBC Urdu website, the mob burned five houses over an alleged ‘blasphemous material’ posted on a Facebook page.

BBC Urdu quoted People Colony Circle’s Deputy Superintendent of Police as saying that mob gathered and start protesting after an Ahmadi youth allegedly posted ‘blasphemous material’ on the social networking website.

Later, the mob turned violent and started torching the community’s houses.

According to police and eyewitnesses, there were seven to eight houses of Ahmadi community in the vicinity. However, following the violence all the Ahmadi families in the area managed to flee.
