Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Calcutta, India, organized an Eid Milan function on Saturday, August 9, at Hotel Golden Park.
Many faith leaders, government officials, politicians, police officers, civic leaders, academicians, professionals, and intellectual from all walks of life attended the function.
President of the Calcutta chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, Zafar Ahmad, welcomed the guest and conveyed the community's sincere gratitude for participating in the program.
The National Press Secretary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, India, Maulana Mojahid Ahmad Shashtari said that Eid was named so because it returns every year with renewed happiness.
"Today however," Mr. Shashtari said, "the Islamic world is passing through a painful and miserable time of victimization."
Mr. Shashtari added that the main reasons for the unrest are disagreement, lack of trust and unity among the Muslim countries. "That is why," he said, "in some countries the countrymen are fighting with their fellow countrymen, in some countries peoples are fighting with their governments and in some countries governments are doing injustice with their citizens."
"It is painful to see that entire world is silent at the present ongoing slaughtering of innocent Palestinian women and children by Israel. And on the other hand the Muslim world thinks that mourning is enough for Palestinians."
Mr. Utpal Chatterjee, former Sheriff of Calcutta, praised the Ahmadiyya Muslim community for their efforts to bring leaders of different faith under one roof and share their happiness, adding that all the religions and communities of the world should follow the verdict of their own scriptures.
Sardar Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, general secretary for Behala (Calcutta) Gurudwarah Committee, praised the community saying that the Ahmadi Muslims ares always at the forefront of the causes for the oppressed.
Ms. Saira Shah Haleem, educationist and social activist expressed that continuation of such auspicious get-together is earnestly required to make a cohesive society free from all sorts of violence and injustice.
The function was concluded with the silent prayer led by Maulana Jamal Shari’at, Ahmadiyya Missionary In-charge in Calcutta.
